Emotional media practices of migration
I am a media anthropologist specializing in the intersection of emotions, borders, and digital media in migration contexts. My research focuses on the everyday media practices of refugees, borderlanders, and activists, with a particular emphasis on the Sahrawi experience across Algeria, Spain, and Mauritania. I also explore bordering experiences through visual methodologies, especially in film, at European and non-European borders. Currently, I am a Guest Professor in Communication Studies and a postdoctoral fellow in the ERC-funded Reel Borders project, led by Professor Kevin Smets. I earned my PhD in Gender and Migration Studies from Universidad de La Laguna (2020), receiving the extraordinary doctoral prize, and serve as vice-chair of the ECREA Diaspora, Migration, and the Media section.
